Esther de Jong - Even about life
Esther de Jong (Dokkum, 1994) makes Dutch diary music. Growing up with the lyrics of Robert Long, among others, Esther de Jong was inspired at an early age to write poignant lyrics, clear language. These first found a place in her diary stories, but later also surfaced in her music. Melancholic songs, but often with a touch of humor. Digging into her own visions, thoughts and emotions (which can change every day), stories about life come to light. Meanwhile, also under the influence of other artists such as Father John Misty and WENDE, Esther de Jong focuses mainly on lyrics and performance. And with the expansion of a whole band, influences from Radiohead and Elbow are also added and the music finds even more layers. Even over leven is her debut album. A collection of songs that ultimately simply tell a story about a life. Part of her diary writings, translated into songs. A small glimpse, for a moment, into a life. The life of Esther de Jong. “What I mainly hope with this album is that there are people who recognize themselves in the stories. For me it is out now and for you it is to absorb and carry away.”
