Scram C Baby - Give Us A Kiss
A record you want to listen to from start to finish. And then again. From the first lines of Shine a little light (These are the things we're doing it for, put some ginger in my ears) to the chillingly warm-blooded closing song Throw me to the kids, the band shows you every corner of the room.
Give Us A Kiss is a record on which all the qualities of the band come into their own more than ever.
The Scram C-babies managed to hide how good they really are on previous albums. Because there were a few too many ideas, or because it was just too raw or weird at times. This time, even the bad listener will have to admit that we are dealing with one of the best bands in the Benelux. It's all there: songs, sound and soul.
The madness and playfulness are still there – thank God – but are guided in strict channels. This time the band has made music and argued until the twelve chosen songs (despite the great variety) could be compressed into one lump of granite. Coarse and refined, brightly colored, ... well, look up the characteristics of this rock in a reference book: they all apply to Give Us A Kiss.
It's still unmistakably Scram C Baby as in Soul Marinera, Treehouse and Kill Screen, but this record might just open some doors for the band. In the minds of DJs, music compilers and other listeners.
