Old-school hip-hop and Dutch lyrics, that's Bob uit Zuid through and through. This is his debut album. It's not often that the label Excelsior Recordings - for years the main supplier of refined indie music - signs a rapper, but Bob uit Zuid is not just any rapper. He writes the lyrics and music himself, his buddy Tim Knol records it. A rock-hard record with "real" instruments. "My annoyance with a lot of rap these days is that everything comes from the computer. You don't hear an organ, no fuzz guitar, no real drums." You can hear all that on this debut. Musically, the comparison with the Beastie Boys is obvious, but The Black Keys, Osdorp Posse and Urban Dance Squad can also be mentioned if clarification is desired.
