Freek van Duin - Ziep Wheelchair Magic Horse

Freek van Duin makes his debut with his children's book Ziep Wheelchair Magic Horse . Freek is a young man of thirty and suffers from the chronic disease Duchenne. It has always been Freek's dream to make a children's book in which a child in a wheelchair is not presented as a victim, but as an imaginative and active person with his own dreams. To realize this dream, Freek contacted his friend Eddy Terstall, who is a filmmaker. Together they tried to build a network to realize such a book.

Freek has managed to convince artist Kees Koorevaar to make the illustrations together in consultation. Tim Knol and his record company I Love My label have offered to release the book in combination with a real title track.

With Ziep Wheelchair Magic Horse, children with disabilities are put on a pedestal. In 2020, this is more urgent than ever. Just like Freek van Duin, a large group of vulnerable children, due to the influence of the Corona virus, live in forced isolation for months. Fortunately, Freek is a perseverer and he has written down his story, despite his severe disability. A physically demanding task, because Freek can only move his fingers due to his illness.

The book tells the story of little Ziep. Ziep is in a wheelchair. As a result, he can do less than other children. But he does have a great imagination. Ziep's magic horse makes the boy's wishes come true. Together with his bear, he experiences great adventures. From the search for magic dust in mouse wonderland to a long journey on the back of a bird to his uncle Beppe.
