A boyhood dream came true when The Upsessions recorded fifteen new tracks with reggae icon and Grammy winner Lee 'scratch' Perry in late 2013. In their self-built studio, they recorded with Perry and the horn section, and came up with the fourth album The Upsessions Shake It! The Dutch singer/songwriter Tim Knol can also be heard on this album. These guest contributions, but also excursions into ska, calypso, soul and funk, make 'Shake it!' more diverse and exciting than ever.

The basis of the album still lies in 'early reggae'. When Boss van Trigt, singer and founder of the band, first came into contact with this very unknown style, he knew: this music had to be played and heard again. This primal form of reggae, which originated from the Jamaican ska of the early '60s, was raw, sharp, fast, aggressive and above all very danceable. The lyrics were about girls, fighting, drinking, sex and were often full of humor and double meanings.

Although early reggae has always remained somewhat underground, there is still a worldwide 'scene' for this early Jamaican music and the Upsessions played into that with their debut album 'The new heavyweight champion' from 2007. Since the release of that album, released by the legendary British ska label 'Moon Ska Records', the Upsessions toured all over Europe, from Spain to Serbia and from Denmark to England.

The second album 'Beat you reggae' from 2010 also made the band more popular in the Netherlands. The fast, energetic and summery reggae turned out to do very well at festivals like Lowlands, Zwarte Cross, Into the great wide open and Paaspop. After a third album and several performances at big European ska and reggae festivals, and even a performance for 5,000 partying Brazilians in Sao Paulo, the Upsessions are now back with their fourth album: 'Shake it!'
