Collection: Antwerp Gipsy Ska Orchestra

The Antwerp Gipsy-Ska Orkestra website is full of cultural references. Like a globe on a stick that has been swung just a little too hard. The orchestra has roots in Belgium, Serbia, Chile and Argentina, but makes friends wherever it goes. And colleagues. For example, they work with the biggest names in the Gipsy circuit. Take the Markovic family, about whom Miles Davis is said to have said: “I didn't know you could play the trumpet like this”. Also special are the popular cover bands in Kosovo, with only material from the Antwerp Gipsy-Ska Orkestra, which in turn are often covers too. But then just a little bit different of course. A drum & bass beat. Some hip hop attitude. A bit of freestyle jazz. Anything goes. Anything must. As long as it can be traced back to that gipsy reggae. Or to quote the band itself:

“You don't like gipsy‐reggae?

I will shed no tears

Go listen to Britney Spears”
