Dawn Brothers

Anyone who sees the Dawn Brothers at work will be irrevocably sucked into the musical whirlwind that rages across the stage. It goes in all directions, with rock, folk, blues and soul seemingly effortlessly mixed into an irresistible cocktail. It is that stimulating 'what's going on here' feeling that makes you want to be part of this Rotterdam band yourself. A band that is perfectly attuned to each other, radiates joy of playing and where the love for music runs through every vein.

With their no-nonsense mentality, the Dawn Brothers fit seamlessly into the Rotterdam 'don't talk, just clean' community. But don't be mistaken. They may seem nonchalant, but their contemporary interpretation of roots music proves that this is a group of musicians who know damn well what they are doing. This is also evident from their new album, 'Alpine Gold', which will be released this fall by Excelsior Recordings and on which the band unleashes a thick pack of witchcraft on their audience.

In 2017, their debut album 'Stayin' Out Late' was released, which became an unexpected success and also received a lot of positive reviews. 'Vampire' was a hit in the Dutch and German indie charts and gave the band a kickstart: the group toured the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Hungary and played over 200 shows in just two years. In Germany, they blew away many music lovers with their performance during the WDR Rockpalast Crossroads festival and in their own country they were awarded the title of OORtalent during the Popronde. They also performed at the Oppikoppi festival in South Africa and were the first Dutch band to try their luck during the legendary Americanafest in Nashville, USA.

The second album, 'Classic', was released in 2018, followed by headline tours in the Netherlands and Germany and two support tours for DeWolff. With DeWolff they would collaborate again in 2019 for 'Next Of Kin', a project in which Tim Knol was also involved. The result of this collaboration was a six-track EP and a tour through the Netherlands with the occasional band.

This was followed by 'Dusk' (2021) and 'Double Cream' (2022). The latter, again a collaboration with DeWolff, received, in addition to enthusiastic reviews, a prestigious Edison nomination and was the first album on which new bassist Tammo Deuling showed his skills.

If the basis of the dish is good, you really only need a few ingredients and further bells and whistles are unnecessary and mainly distracting. This also applies to the Dawn Brothers, for whom their new album 'Alpine Gold' has become a return to the energy of the debut album. No bullshit, just make a good record with strong songs, that was the idea. The songs that ended up on 'Alpine Gold' were written and then recorded within two months. This happened in the Electric Monkey studio in Zaandam, where the band withdrew together with producer Paul Willemsen and recorded a mysterious, magical narrative on record.

They may be the epitome of modesty, but on 'Alpine Gold' the Dawn Brothers are not afraid to open Pandora's Box and unleash a wave of idiosyncratic, exciting and original music on their audience that will leave them spellbound.

Dawn Brothers' new album, 'Alpine Gold', will be released on October 27th via Excelsior Recordings.
