Lonely Girls
It reads like a newspaper headline from the past: 'Lonely drummer becomes singer and starts own career.' That's what happens when you force a drummer without a drum kit and band members to lock him up in his apartment in the center of Amsterdam. Kees Schaper picked up a guitar and wrote his own music. Power pop in the best tradition of the genre. 'Happy'-sounding songs peppered with a sense of longing, yearning and despair. Full of melodic hooks, vocal harmonies and everything expertly and energetically recorded on tape.
Lonely Girls made their debut on February 19 with a sensitive cover of his musical hero Nick Lowe.
“When I first heard Lately I've Let Things Slide , it felt like Nick Lowe had written it about me. It's quite an evocative song. Especially in times like these.”
Where Schaper saw everything slipping out of his hands, he takes control with Lonely Girls and his downfall is one to enjoy. Now there is the new track Reflections that is accompanied by a 7” release on Milkcow Records.
