Collection: Nagasaki Swim
Nagasaki Swim releases new single The Weight Pt. 2
Nagasaki Swim is growing, like everything else. For the second spring in a row, the Rotterdam band around Jasper Boogaard is coming out with new music: The Weight Pt. 2 , the first single from an album that will be released later this year by Excelsior Recordings.
The Weight Pt. 2 is the organic sequel to what Nagasaki Swim debuted with in the spring of 2021: a thoroughly American indie folk sound à la LVL UP, Lomelda and Bonny Doon with equally deep roots in Rotterdam-Noord. The Mirror, Boogaard & co's first album, was well received by 3voor12, Trouw and OOR, among others, and brought the band to pop venues throughout the Netherlands.
From that fertile soil, new music has blossomed. The ten days the band spent in the Katzwijm recording studio in the summer of 2021 laid the foundation for the album Everything Grows. The Weight Pt. 2 was also created there. That Nagasaki Swim is a truly close band in 2022 – and no longer a vehicle for Boogaard alone – immediately becomes apparent. The Weight Pt. 2 is fuller, heavier and constantly in motion. Kat Kalkman's piano playing and Molly Germer's (Alex G, Hop Along) compelling violin playing match Boogaard's introspective lyrics – about death and the failure of the human body. Death is on his mind. At the same time, the sun still shines and Boogaard meticulously balances the heaviness with the mundane.
Everything Grows was created with the help of the Basisbeurs from Into The Great Wide Open and will be released in the fall by Excelsior Recordings. Want to see Nagasaki Swim live? You can do so this summer at Best Kept Secret and Oerol, among others.
