The Golden Glows
The Golden Glows have been working on classic Americana for years, but in recent years have focused more on their own work. 'Sunrise' is the provisional highlight of that development, with songs that still have deep roots in traditional music, but clearly show a voice of their own.
With modest means, the band creates a sound that is indebted to the great songwriters of yesteryear, such as Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Nick Drake. The music stands out because of the refined guitar work and the beautiful close harmony vocals and it is impressive what the band manages to achieve with such a modest arsenal.
'Sunrise' is a dreamy record with a simple message: every day can be a new beginning. It is the most personal work of The Golden Glows to date and wants to offer the listener comfort and wonder. To do so, the band deliberately keeps it simple: strong songs and a clear performance without fuss. That simplicity becomes the strength of the group, with the single guitar and the polyphonic singing as a vehicle for the authentic, sincere music of the Antwerp trio.
'Sunrise' is a beacon of warmth and hope in turbulent times. A musical refuge.
