Danny Vera will release The New Black & White Pt. II in September, the second in a series of short sessions featuring a number of new original tracks, supplemented with defining covers: “Music inspired by the old. Actually like a black/white film that is being made now”. With the new EP, which will be released on CD and vinyl (10"), Danny can be seen in theaters from September.
The first part of The New Black & White was well received. In the studio of Frans Hagenaars, Danny Vera chose a different approach; In a small band formation he played a number of new numbers. Sometimes on his own, then with his in twos or threes. A single track turned out to be a direct hit after the first take.
Danny: “Playing everything live, without headphones. Awesome! Recording like in the old days, but with today’s technology… The New Black & White”.
Earlier this year he played the tracks of The New Black & White in the theaters with a show with the same title. A reprise will follow this from September and with it the second part of the record. Danny: "I thought it was nice to make a diptych, because the theater show also consists of 2 parts. Before and after the break".
Danny Vera still had a few songs he wanted to record. Expandable Time is a catchy love song and Best Days of my life is about growing old and the world of today. Leavin' by Don Williams is a track his father used to listen to and sing: “Years later we often sang it together when I had to play somewhere and my father happened to be there. It is also part of the stories of the theater show.”
A few years ago, Danny covered Russian Roulette by Rihanna in Giel Beelen's show: "The song is beautiful and has always stuck with me. I had to record it myself one day." The same goes for Too Much Love Will Kill You by Queen: "I thought this song would lend itself perfectly to a stripped-down version. Just me and a guitar. About missing people who are no longer there."
Danny Vera starts his theatre tour in mid-September, where he can be seen until the end of March. The New Black & White Pt. II will be released on 18 September.
