Fixkes 2.0. It took a while, but hibernation is now really over. In September, the group will be there with a new record - 'Weeral halfacht' - and with a lot of enthusiasm. Previews were the hip-hop slow 'Nooit niks' and now 'Jodie Foster', the most autobiographical Fixkes song ever. And yes, Sam Valkenborgh still writes fantastic songs with just the right amount of barbs. And no, the new Kvraagetaan will be for another time.
And yes, a few things have changed. The field line-up, for example. Sam Valkenborgh moves to bass, newcomer Mike Engels (Freestyle Fabrik) fills in on guitar. The other three remain faithfully at their posts: Jan Valkenborgh on drums, Peter Deckers on guitar and Bart Palmers on keys. That it all sounds a bit rawer, with many echoes of the '90s. That it's about speech medolles, coriander from den Turk and women who love Cake. That it's still about love. Or the lack thereof. That Woody Allen actually has a lot in common with dad Valkenborgh.
Finally, Fixkes is back. About time, indeed.
