Vegetables & Fruit was in 2005 the first album that Excelsior Recordings was allowed to release by Hallo Venray. It was their fifth and truly the record on which Venray found its definitive form as a trio. With an album in the top category. Literally and figuratively the album was so good and unique that it was not received with great enthusiasm by the press or the public. God knows what was still hip at the time, but not Hallo Venray.
Ten years later, Vegetables & Fruit is considered a Nederrock classic, reason for XLCR to give the album a nice reissue. On vinyl too, for the first time. And the band, which fortunately still consists of Henk Koorn, Peter Konings and Henk Jonkers, will hit the road this fall to play the album in its entirety.
'Perfectly sensitive' was the headline in Muziekblad OOR's review ten years ago: "Is this perfect beauty or unhurried pop for softies? Again, both are correct. Listen to songs like Weirdo, Same Feeling and the My Morning Jacket-like Holy alone in a quiet room and a whole new world will open up for you. Or have you already been converted?"
De Volkskrant wrote: "It may well be the most beautiful Hallo Venray album, on which gritty rockers (Kicking) and beautiful little songs (Same Feeling, Piling It Up) alternate. And how beautifully fragile those crumpled vocals of Henk Koorn sound on this honestly warm-sounding album. We definitely have to listen to it live."
Henk Koorn about the reissue: “We will play the record in its entirety during ten exclusive shows. Due to the amount of the Hallo Venray repertoire (13 records), many of those songs are no longer played. This is a chance to play them again, and we are really looking forward to it."
