Happy Camper - The Both of Us
The Edison-winning music project Happy Camper returns this year with their fourth album: The Both of Us . For the first time since their 2011 debut, the friendly Yeti Manfred graces the cover. Manfred is the animated mascot of Happy Camper by Studio Job, Joris & Marieke. He returns, drawn on childhood photos, as an imaginary friend with whom you can conquer the world together. He is the friendly voice that cheers you up when you are down and encourages you when you don't dare to do something.
Like singing. That is something that Happy Camper initiator Job Roggeveen did not dare to do for a long time. After the break-up of the band Omski, in which Job was the lead singer, his self-confidence in this area evaporated. He wrote new songs but asked eleven singers to sing them for him. That became Happy Camper. During large revue shows, a lot of artists including Blaudzun, Tim Knol and Eefje de Visser sang about the ups and downs in Jobs' life. Because the songs on the first three Happy Camper albums do form Jobs' diary. In fact, the whole
project because Job found an original way to avoid something he no longer dared to do.
An overarching theme on The Both of Us is saying goodbye to a friendship or a relationship. And what it's like to discover who you were again, when you're on your own again after a long time. Rediscovering your autonomy, daring to jump in at the deep end and entering into new adventures and commitments. Job felt it was time to search for his own voice again, to tell this story. He uses that voice softly and intimately.
The title The Both of Us also stands for Job and Leine. Singer Leine has been a Happy Camper since the debut album. A Happy Camper album is always performed by multiple voices. And Job and Leine wrote songs together on previous albums. That's why it felt very natural to involve Leine in this album.
The Both of Us is an album full of dreamy, acoustic songs, somewhere between melancholy and the folky feelgood melodies that we know so well from Happy Camper. The album will be released on September 15th by Excelsior Recordings. In November and December a theater tour will follow, called Around the Campfire, where the band will play a best of four Happy Camper albums. Job and Leine will be accompanied by singers Bouke Zoete and David Pino and musicians Edward Capel and Jan Willem Wisselink. In De Kleine Komedie and TivoliVredenburg Janne Schra will also appear as a special guest.
