Hister - Duuster (reserve)
Available from November 15th .
After an EP and a single it was high time for the indie rockers from Groningen for a full album. Expanded with guitarist John Krol, they entered the No Pussy Blues Studio at the beginning of this year with Klaas Pot behind the buttons. From bass and drums to bass, drums and guitar and even a trip to a number with keys. (Duuster, with Thuur Caris).
A new line-up, a new sound. The result is a diverse album that takes a different turn on the indie rock highway. Opening track Duuster stops in the village where The Cure also made a pit stop and tracks like Nacht and Glin in Heels fly out of the bend on their way to the nearest punk den. Further on the horizon we catch a glimpse of something reminiscent of Motorpsycho.
What has remained the same is the Groningen dialect. The personal lyrics of singer and bassist Merel Weijer sometimes breathe melancholy (Duuster), then spit anger and pain (Glin in haken) or are soft and vulnerable in a song like Onwis.
The band has not only grown in size but has also developed musically. The idiosyncratic guitar parts of John Krol make the songs exciting and lift them to a higher level. They may occasionally throw you back to the unpolished guitar rock of the nineties. Duuster is a record with dark edges but also sensitive and lively.
Listen and be surprised by exciting indie rock in Groningen.
