I Believe In My Mess - We Can't Be Wrong
The second album WE CAN'T BE WRONG shows that the band has moved beyond the status of a side project of Scram C Baby. The sound has developed in their own Messy Sound Studio from cut-n-paste dubs supplemented with voice samples, to a more self-confident and broader band sound. The wayward dubs have remained, albeit more subtle, and the tracks now seek in their own way more often to approach melodies and hooks of 'a song'. This makes the vocals more important, with the voice samples serving the whole. We can't be wrong.
Live the focus is on improvisation, with lots of dub and guitar, and not to forget live-coded visuals by Mark Meeuwenoord.
I Believe In My Mess has been releasing their music on Filthy Good Records since 2016. Their debut album Do Unto Others was very well received in 2021, with airplay on BBC6, BBC Ulster and WFMU, among others. I Believe In My Mess previously mixed dub tracks for acts such as De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, Hallo Venray, Canshaker Pi, Fatima Yamaha and Meindert Talma.
About the debut album Do Unto Others:
- "Amster-Goddamn! I Believe In My Mess have only come up with a great sonic nugget" (BBC Ulster - Michael Bradley)
- "I am very taken by the album" (BBC Radio 6 - Gideon Coe)
- "Do Unto Others is a colorful mix of hard, soft, harmony and chaos, joy and crisis. It never gets heavy, the band always sounds entertaining in its own wayward way." (Written In Music - Edwin Hofman)
- “It's like musical play-doh, do look them up” (BBC Radio 6 Recommends – Steve Lamacq)
