The brain behind King Champion Sounds is the Amsterdam-based, Kenyan-born Brit Ajay Saggar. Saggar has built up an impressive track record in the music world in the past. He worked as a sound engineer behind the buttons for greats such as My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr., Mogwai and many others. Saggar is joined in King Champion Sounds by former The Ex frontman GW Sok, Oli Heffernan (bass), Danielle Johnson (guitar), Mees Siderius (drums), Ditmer Weetman (sax) and Chris Moerland (trombone).
With a whopping 19 tracks, 'To Awake In That Heaven Of Freedom' is a dizzying symbiosis of styles to lick your lips: psychedelic kraut, post-punk dub, spiritual free jazz, spoken word poetry, spooky soundscapes, sucking electronics and more. Saggar is single-handedly responsible for the music, recording, production and mixing. The album was mastered by Helmut Erier (Hey-O-Hansen) at Dubplates + Mastering in Berlin.
For 'To Awake In That Heaven Of Freedom' King Champion Sounds has gathered a number of special guests, including J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), Mike Watt, (Minutemen, Stooges), Alasdair Roberts, Tom Carter (Charlambides), Ab Baars (ICP Orchestra), Johannes v/d Weert (Rondos) and Mick Derrick (Prolapse).
