Less than a year ago, Matteo Myderwyk released the album To Move and now his second long player is here. After a busy period of playing a lot, Myderwyk sought peace in November 2017. He found it in the SSE Noord studio of producer Frans Hagenaars, where he recorded Verses: An intimate album with eleven pieces. Just Matteo Myderwyk and a piano. Two days of recording. They became untitled compositions, only indicated by the key of the music. “The music is very quiet and open. Track titles would steer the songs in too much of a direction, while with this album I prefer to leave that to the listener. It is eleven verses together that together form an album. Much more intimate than To Move, with the intention that the album is listened to by people who want to shut themselves off for a while.”

Matteo Myderwyk (1990) only started playing the piano when he was fourteen and two years later he started studying classical piano at the conservatory. He plays jazz in bands, church organ in various churches, piano on his own on Into The Great Wide Open, an electronic live set on Red Light Radio and in 2017 he made his debut with the album To Move. But Matteo Myderwyk does not stand still. His music is constantly evolving and his live shows are very varied. Sometimes solo on the piano but often enough he breaks with all the classical laws by constantly improvising and he appears with an arsenal of synthesizers, beat machines and organs on just as many different stages. From a festival, to a club, a church or concert hall. And if this unique pianist has to be compared to something or someone, then names like Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Keith Jarret and Nils Frahm will never be far away.
