Seventy years ago, legendary Groningen artist Hendrik Werkman was shot in the woods near Bakkeveen three days before the liberation of the Northern Netherlands. Commissioned by Stichting Werkman 2015, Meindert Talma wrote and composed a song cycle about the turbulent life of Werkman, who was also known as the printer of De Ploeg and the Picasso of the printing press.
On June 1, 2015, WERKMAN by Meindert Talma & The Melisma Saxophone Quartet will be released by Excelsior Recordings, Talma's tenth album with this label.
