St. Willebrord Sessions Vol II. - Lance The Rock Opera / Live At Walhalla
The story of cyclist Lance Armstrong is not a heroic story. But it is not entirely a villainous story either. Still, enough inspiration for St. Willebrord Sessions Vol. II, Live at Walhalla: Lance the Rock Opera . Under the musical direction of JW Roy with texts by writer and columnist Bert Wagendorp, a group of musicians and writers come up with a book and CD about the seven-time Tour winner, who previously defeated cancer and eventually had to hand in his yellow jerseys due to doping use.
It is the story of a cycling Faust who sold his soul to the devil. The story of Icarus who flew to the sun, until he lost his wings and crashed. A real rock opera, recorded in Kantine Walhalla on Katendrecht in Rotterdam under the musical direction of JW Roy with vocalists Lea Kliphuis, Frank Lammers, Rick de Leeuw, Guus Meeuwis and Alex Roeka, accompanied by the Lance band (Cok van Vuuren - guitar, Reyer Zwart - bass, Jan Hautekiet - keys and Jeroen Kleijn - drums). The album tells the story of the rise and fall of Lance Armstrong in fourteen songs.
The music for Lance, the Rock Opera was mostly written by JW Roy. Lea Kliphuis, Guus Meeuwis, Wilma de Rek, Alex Roeka, Cok van Vuuren and Reyer Zwart also wrote songs. The lyrics were mostly written by Bert Wagendorp. Peter Winnen wrote one song text, Alex Roeka two.
The net proceeds of the project St. Willebrord Sessions Vol. II, will go via Tour for Life to the Daniel den Hoed Foundation for cancer research at the Erasmus MC, Rotterdam.
