With the release of their self-titled debut album, something happens that The Miseries did not expect. What started after a long night at the bar does not seem to have an end yet, via domestic successes and American adventures. The Miseries, garage punk band and side project of Tim Knol, is already a great success. While that was not at all the expectation when the men went into the studio hungover.
The result of those first recordings was released in the fall of 2013 on Tender Records, Tim Knol's own vinyl label. The band got a taste for it and made their stage debut at Oerol. "We don't want to think too much about a plan, just make good music and play a lot," says drummer Kees Schaper. After surprising friend and foe with their show at Into The Great Wide Open, a club tour followed and The Miseries played five shows at Eurosonic-Noorderslag. Not without unqualified success. The band is carefully taking steps abroad, with the most important feat being a trip to America where the band will play at SXSW in March.
In the meantime, they recorded their self-titled debut album in the MI5 Studios in Hoorn. Twelve songs in thirty minutes. An album that is reminiscent of their heroes, whether they are The Saints, Pavement, The Buzzcocks or The Ramones. “We make songs without concessions and only do what we want ourselves. That makes it a versatile album, with strong melodies and energy as a connecting factor,” says Tim Knol, singer and guitarist. Just like Knol's solo albums, the album will be released on Excelsior Recordings.
An idea that got out of hand in a pub seems to slowly turn into a musician's dream: making good music with three friends and playing it all over the world. Where it will end is the question, but one thing is certain: The Miseries are well on their way.
