Togo All Stars - Spirits

The Togolese capital Lomé breathes music. One of the leading musical acts that calls the West African metropolis home, the Togo All Stars, brings together influences from the high-life movement and Afrobeat in their idiosyncratic, rousing and spiritually oriented musical style.

'Spirits', the new album by Togo All Stars, is dedicated to the spiritual awakening of the world, and Africa in particular, in these times of unrest. Everyone must wake up, put their shoulders to the wheel and make their contribution, is the message. The artist in particular has an important role in this awareness, according to the legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. He once said: “Music is something spiritual. You don't play with music. If you play with music, you die young. If the higher powers give you the gift of music, you must use that gift to do good for humanity.”

Looking away or sitting still is not an option for the musicians of Togo All Stars. “This album is also for all those young Africans who die every day in the Mediterranean, with the false hope of finding a better life elsewhere.”
