Togo All Stars - Togo All Stars
They come from Lomé, the capital of Togo. In the middle of the area where West African music blossomed and celebrated great successes: the highlife from Accra, the Orchestre Polyrythmo from Cotonou, the legendary Fela Kuti and his afrobeat from Lagos. In this environment, the Togo All Stars created their exciting, own style, a style in which voodoo plays a major role. It is jazz, it is pop, the afrobeat, highlife, funk and also voodoo. A lot of voodoo. Voodoo is the West African religion that came to America with the slave trade, was banned there but found a hiding place in music. The voodoo gods that Togo All Stars sing about left their mark in jazz, blues, salsa and samba. There is more to tell about the band and its music but, as the young bassist Wisdom Lawson Latevi of the Togo All Stars once said: “Too much talking is not good, meet me on stage."
