Vic Willems - Doomsayer / Child Prodigy
Good music breathes the spirit of the times. Vic Willems' work does that.
He knows how to capture the modern attitude to life in enchanting pieces of music that seem to reflect not only his own attitude to life, but also that of a generation.
The 26-year-old Vic Willems from Utrecht. He makes intimate, melancholic listening pop with personal lyrics on a layer of electronics. In 2016 he won the Grand Prix of the Netherlands and has already released an EP on his own.
The album 'Doemdenker / Wonderkind' is his first proof of skill on Excelsior Recordings and will be released on April 10.
Vic Willems gently but authoritatively draws you into his world of thought. Where you have become accustomed to the pop trivia of everyday life, he draws attention with his deep thoughts. This is so different that you simply have to listen, whether you want to or not. There is no escaping it. It is clever poetry and its uniqueness is undisputed. The view of the world and his place in it is that of a vulnerable young artist who does not spare himself with sharp reflections. The questions he raises are those that many of his contemporaries struggle with. It is recognizably worded.
As a 'Doomsday Thinker/Wunderkind' he is not alone. He is with many. That is a consolation. It is going too far to speak of a 'mouthpiece for his generation', because it is not inconceivable that the questions asked are universal and therefore concern all ages.
