Collection: Fixkes
In 2005, Myspace still seemed like the promised land for every band. It was on this website that Fixkes' demos, made between a flat football and old paper, quickly took on a life of their own. Electro musician Stijn asked the boys from Stabroek to join him on tour in Flanders and the Netherlands, the demo version of kvraagetaan was surprisingly heard on Studio Brussel and at the end of 2006 Bart Peeters had Fixkes appear on his end-of-year show on Eén. Happy New Year! The properly recorded, official release of kvraagetaan was immediately the hotshot of the week on Studio Brussel and soon after parked itself in first place in the Ultratop. Sixteen weeks at number 1. Never happened.
Back to the roaring twenties. Myspace didn't work. Fixkes disappeared under the radar again, but also remained active in hibernation. Kept working on lyrics and songs, occasionally swapping the small and fragile for a fat guitar solo or a dash of hip hop. And got better. In the meantime, fifteen years after that first rehearsal, there are four albums on the counter. The style? Nineties, is that a style? What Pavement, Beastie Boys, Cake or Weezer? "Rock is dead", sings Sam on the song Swijle so funny . That could well be, but if bum bags are allowed and sweaters scream at the top of their lungs, all that's left is the dungarees. Or Fixkes. Or the two together of course.
