Michelle David & The True Tones

Leon Bridges, Michael Kiwanuka, Arlo Parks, Durand Jones, yes even Kanye West and his Sunday service… Michelle David is no longer alone in spreading the gospel. Disrupted times call for contemplation. And there is no genre where this can be found more than in soul music. It explains why Michelle David & The True-tones are now familiar faces on Dutch TV, are played a lot on the French Radio network FIP and even managed to penetrate the hips of Willem-Alexander and Maxima.

The fourth album was given a subtitle in Michelle David's head: Victory . After a difficult battle with cancer, she sings about the victory here. Vol. 4 is a celebration of life. Got no time to move slow. Onno Smit and Paul Willemsen were again responsible for the music, this time more seventies soul with a strong Curtis Mayfield character. In addition to the familiar rhythm & blues, gospel and soul elements, we now also hear calypso, afrobeat and boogaloo influences in their music. And all that with the ease with which someone else ties their shoelaces.

Forces of victory and we're coming right through sang a great poet once. Michelle David & The True-tones are a natural phenomenon at the right moment in time. The body dances while the soul heals.
