Collection: Quartet Niek Hilkmann

In 2015, Niek Hilkmann surprised with his Dutch-language offbeat pop nugget, the album Knak . In the meantime, Niek has formed a band around him with a permanent base for Arie van Vliet, also known as Arie van Lewsberg. The sound has also immediately taken a quartet step towards The Velvet Underground. But instead of Heroin and Andy Warhol , Niek Hilkman sings about the fairground attractions of Hans van Tol.

The Rotterdam quartet dwells on that which cannot be put into words through platitudes, bold statements and filler words. The tragedy of beaten paths and the pleasure behind emotion are taken as seriously as the seriousness of a stale joke and the discomfort of conviviality.

“You ask me what I'm staring at, I say, the animal in your hair!”
